Sure, this big fluffy dog named Leo simply adores his family, but there’s something else he loves — a brown stuffed animal he takes with him everywhere.
“It is his favorite toy,” Hayley Alaxanian, Leo’s owner, told The Dodo.
But recently, a little mishap threatened to end the good thing Leo and his toy have going.
The other day, Leo was playing with the plush plaything, as usual, when tragedy struck. Somehow, the enthusiastic pup managed to accidentally rip a hole into his little fabric friend, exposing its soft, white innards — a life-threatening injury for any stuffed toy.
Fortunately, Alaxanian’s dad was soon on hand after the graphic scene unfolded. Clearly, the dog was devastated.
“[My dad] took the toy away from him and put it away so he couldn’t reach it, but he was crying and trying to reach for it,” Alaxanian said. “That’s when my dad decided to get his sewing kit out and started sewing it back together.”
During the emergency “surgery” to save his favorite toy’s life, worry-stricken Leo never left its side:
After several tense moments passed, the operation was complete. Leo’s toy was going to pull through, despite Dad’s inexperience in handling such high-pressure procedures.
“That is the first time I’ve seen him sew a dog toy together,” Alaxanian said.
Leo couldn’t have been more relieved.
And with that, the pup and his plaything were happily reunited.
With any luck, Leo will learn to be a bit more gentle with his plush pal going forward — but there’s no doubt that Alaxanian’s dad will be there to assist once again if any other toy-related injuries do arise. His relationship with Leo, after all, is one of pure love.
“It is the sweetest thing ever,” Alaxanian said.
