According to TMZ, Presley’s housekeeper found her unresponsive in the bathroom. Her ex-husband, Danny Keough, performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
Her mother, Priscilla Presley, confirmed Lisa Marie’s passing in a statement:
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known.”
Just one day prior to her death, Lisa Marie had attended the Golden Globes, where she watched as Austin Butler took home the Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture award for his portrayal of Lisa Marie’s father in Elvis.
“I really didn’t know what to do with myself after I saw it,” she recalled of Baz Luhrmann’s biopic of her father’s life.
“I had to take, like, five days to process it because it was so incredible and so spot on and just so authentic that, yeah, I can’t even describe what it meant.”
Reports detail how Priscilla is now gearing up to lock horns with her daughter’s ex-husband, Michael Lockwood, with whom she shared twin daughters, Harper and Finlay.
Radar claims that Lisa Marie was still a partial owner of her father’s famous Graceland estate at the time of her death, as well as being the head of a $65 million trust.
A source told Radar: “Michael is looking to be named executor of his daughters’ trust and finances to gain control of millions in cash.”
Priscilla Presley, though, doesn’t want this to happen. The same source added: “But Priscilla believes this is Presley money — and she’ll fight tooth and nail to keep his hands off it!”
This week would have marked Lisa Marie’s 55th birthday – an event sure to be keenly felt as her family continue to process their grief.
On her daughter’s birthday, Priscilla talked about her plans to “keep our family together”.
“Today would have been Lisa’s 55th birthday. My wish is to protect my three grandchildren and keep our family together,” she said, as per Fox.
“From the first moment I held Lisa in my arms, I’ve protected, loved and guided her, as I have my son. Our hearts are broken, and I am having to learn to live without my only daughter. We truly love all of you, and we feel your prayers. Thank you so much for caring so deeply for our family.”
The investigation into Lisa Marie’s cause of death is ongoing. The singer was reportedly laid to rest beside her son, Benjamin Keough, in the garden of the famous Graceland estate late last month.
