The 63-year-old suffered a serious accident in Malibu in 2020 while riding an e-bike, and another one in London in early 2022. These incidents left him with injuries including a fractured back, a broken arm, and a probable concussion. Simon admitted that before the accidents, he was quite unfit and unaware of his physical condition.
The accidents prompted Simon to reflect on his health and adopt a healthier lifestyle, thanks to the support of his fiancée, Lauren Silverman, and for the benefit of his nine-year-old son, Eric. He shared that he considered therapy for the first time due to the emotional impact of his injuries. Simon expressed his low mood and how it affected his ability to engage with his son. However, Eric came up with a nickname for his father, referring to him as “Iron Man” due to the metal rods and screws now on Simon’s back.
Despite the accidents, Simon has maintained his love for biking and plans to continue riding. He joked about the mishaps and made light of his own experiences. During an audition show, he humorously mentioned that after fracturing his back, he realized certain physical activities with his son might not be the best idea.

Simon Cowell hosts Shooting Star Chase afternoon tea at Dorchester Hotel
Shooting Star Chase vice-president Simon Cowell, along with his partner Lauren Silverman, led a host of stars in treating sick children and their families to afternoon tea at The Dorchester in London.
The couple welcomed 13 children and their families who are cared for by the Surrey charity to the hotel in Park Lane last Friday.
They were joined by patrons and friends of the children’s hospice charity including Dame Joan Collins, David Walliams, Katie Price, Michael Ball, and Samantha Bond.
Guests were treated to an exclusive afternoon tea in the Gold Room at the venue, a pick ‘n’ mix sweet cart, goody bags, and Shooting Star Chaser cocktails. Families enjoyed chatting with celebrities, taking photographs, and getting autographs.
Mr. Cowell has hosted the Shooting Star Chase annual afternoon tea since 2012 and accepted an invitation to become vice-president of the charity, which operates in Guildford, last year. Ms. Silverman also became a patron.
Mr. Cowell said: “It’s always a pleasure to support Shooting Star Chase at this event. We’ve been doing it for a few years now and I’ve met some very special people. It’s now like friends spending the afternoon together and creating good memories, and helping spread the word for the charity.”

Families attending the tea are cared for by the charity’s hospices in Hampton or Guildford, where they are supported from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with services including short breaks, therapies, and support groups.
Helen Sibley, director of care for Shooting Star Chase, said: “The afternoon tea is such a wonderful occasion for the children, parents, and siblings that we care for, and a real once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“It’s fantastic to be able to offer our supported families an opportunity to take some time out together in such beautiful surroundings, enjoy some treats, and meet some famous faces.”
