Jennifer Lawrence has spoken about a ‘humiliating’ experience she had as a younger actress.
Jennifer, 33, opened up about an incident that took place when she was in her early acting years, explaining that she was pressured to lose weight in the most ‘degrading’ way.
Speaking at Elle’s Women in Hollywood event back in 2017, Jennifer reflected on a time when she was told by movie producers that she needed to lose 15 pounds.
Not only was she instructed to drop over a stone, she also took part in a ‘naked line up’, something she described as ‘humiliating’.
She claimed she was made to take part in a naked line up with slimmer women, being told that she could use the experience as ‘inspiration’ to drop the pounds.
“During this time a female producer had me do a nude line-up with about five women who were much, much, thinner than me,” she said.
“We are stood side-by-side with only tape on covering our privates. After that degrading and humiliating line-up, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet.”
Jennifer added that another actress, who she didn’t name, was axed from the role for not dropping weight quickly enough.
She recalled how she told a male producer that she didn’t think it was fair she was being asked to lose so much weight so quickly.
She said he responded by saying he ‘didn’t know why everyone thought [she] was so fat’, and that he thought she was ‘perfectly fu**able’.
She also says she was asked by one director to star in a pornographic movie.
Jennifer’s admission came in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, which saw dozens of high-profiles actresses, models and former employees coming forward to claim they were sexually harassed or assaulted by the movie producer.
In 2020, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault.
During the trial, Weinstein was described by the prosecution as an ‘abusive rapist’ who preyed on his victims.
The 71-year-old went to trial after being charged with five counts of rape and sexual assault.
He pleaded not guilty to all of the charges, but was found to be guilty of two.
The father-of-five was cleared of the most serious charges against him, two counts of predatory sexual assault.
In 2023, he was sentenced to a further 16 years in prison after an LA sentencing. Weinstein is serving his time at the Mohawk Correctional Facility.
