This year, in honor of his 60th birthday Michael Jordan is donating $10 million to the Make-A-Wish foundation.
His gift will mark the largest individual donation the foundation, which grants wishes to critically ill children, has ever received.
“I can’t think of a better birthday gift than seeing others join me in supporting Make-A-Wish so that every child can experience the magic of having their wish come true,” Jordan said.
“For the past 34 years, it’s been an honor to partner with Make-A-Wish and help bring a smile and happiness to so many kids,” the basketball legend said in a news release. “Witnessing their strength and resilience during such a tough time in their lives has truly been an inspiration.”
Jordan first started working with the organization in 1989 and has since granted hundreds of wishes. To this day he remains one of Make-A-Wish’s most requested celebrities.
In 2008 he was named Make-A-Wish Chief Wish Ambassador for “life-changing impacts he has had on wish kids and their families.”
Make-A-Wish president and CEO Leslie Motter thanked Jordan for his generous donation and said it was the organization’s hope that others would be inspired to donate.
“Michael using his birthday as a chance to make history for Make-A-Wish speaks to the quality of his character and his loyal dedication to making life better for children with critical illnesses. We hope that the public will be inspired to follow in his footsteps by helping make wishes come true.”

Jordan is just one of many athletes who work with Make-A-Wish to make children’s dreams come true. Just last year WWE wrestler and actor John Cena set the record for the most wishes granted.
Michael Jordan turns 60 on February 17.
What a wonderful way to celebrate a milestone birthday! Thank you Michael for all you have done for such a wonderful organization.
