Hollywood couples Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman, and Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso were among the stars who attended this year’s Met Gala. Their matching looks garnered strong reactions from the public who saw photos of the couples.
This year’s Met Gala was another fashion extravaganza for the books, with Hollywood’s biggest stars all coming dressed to impress and dazzle. Among these celebrities were iconic actors Nicole Kidman and Matt Damon, who were joined by their spouses.
The Spring 2024 exhibit required esteemed attendees to dress according to the theme: “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Kidman and her rockstar husband, Keith Urban interpreted the theme with black and white ensembles that complemented each other.
Kidman opted for a beautiful white gown that had black chiffon-like material making up the bottom half of the dress, creating a protruding ruffle effect. The back of the dress revealed a long white train that was connected to her fitted sleeveless bodice piece.
She paired her glamorous look with arm-length white gloves, and a silver diamond bracelet, and left her blonde locks loose. Urban, on the other hand, donned a chic black suit that had a black rose pinned on one side, a white dress shirt underneath, and a white bow tie. He completed his look with black dress shoes.
Like Urban, Damon, who was accompanied by his wife, Luciana Barroso, also chose to rock a snazzy black suit. He also had on a white dress shirt, a black bow tie, and gleaming black formal shoes.
Barroso stunned in a simple yet elegant white dress that draped down to the floor. Her gown, like Kidman’s, was also sleeveless and fit with stripe details by the bosom area. Though the dress was strapless, it was fastened together by a neckpiece that clasped to the back of the gown.
She complimented her ensemble with silver bangles and dangling earrings while her lusciously thick dark locks fell in loose curls down her back. Pictures of Barroso and Damon, and Kidman and Urban sparked a flurry of comments online.
When it came to what people had to say about Urban and the “Australia” star’s coordinating looks, they did not hold back. “Why are they always holding hands […] like teenagers[?] Always looks staged….Ps: he always looks like the valet driver with the haircut! Maybe that’s what he is? By the way, the theme was ‘garden,’ [they] obviously didn’t get the [memo],” criticized someone.
Another social media user wrote, “I wish Keith would wash his hair once in awhile! I mean Nicole looks awesome…maybe for her special night at least..?” Similarly, another noted, “This dude needs to do something with this stringy greasy hair.”
“He needs a good barber,” continued someone else, and in response, another user called Urban’s appearance “such a dated look.” Kidman posted a picture of the duo intertwined with one another to her Instagram feed, which gave the illusion that Urban was wearing a dress. Referencing this picture, an Instagrammer pondered, “Is Mr. Kidman in a dress-tux situation or am I seeing an optical illusion??”
Similarly, another commented, “Please don’t tell me Keith is wearing a dress.” However, among the vitriol were some fans who praised the couple. “On my personal best dressed list,” complimented a fan, while another gushed, “Most Beautiful Couple! 🔥😍👏.”
Much like how fashion critics were unafraid to express their opinions on Urban and Kidman’s looks, many did the same when it came to Damon and Barroso. “Anna should ban him from the Met Gala for wearing that 🤡🤮,” stated an Instagrammer.
Continuing to speak on the event’s dress code and how the couple chose to incorporate it into their outfits, another social media user expressed, “There needs to be a rule about not letting people in who aren’t incorporating the theme.”
“You have this much money and you wore this? 😡” questioned another unimpressed Instagrammer. Remarking on the minimalistic nature of Barroso and Damon’s looks, another person said, “Great… a little too simple for the MET… 🤷♀️.” “How boring,” remarked another.
However, in contrast to the aforementioned comments, others complimented Damon and his wife. “I love this couple. They always look happy together,” swooned a fan. Another admirer praised, “Love the minimalism omg. I wanna see more like this 😘.”
From the varying comments posted by onlookers and fans alike, it’s clear that this year’s Met Gala has caused a commotion on online platforms. From Kidman’s extravagant gown to Barroso’s chic and simple look, and both of their husbands’ elegant suits, many stars continue to provoke conversations with their Met Gala looks.
Read a similar article about how Jennifer Lopez, like Nicole Kidman, Urban, Damon, and Barroso, sparked a flurry of strong opinions from social media users concerning her Met Gala ensemble.
Attending as one of the co-chairs of the Spring 2024 exhibit, the 54-year-old was a show-stopper while posing for pictures at the event. Lopez wore a gorgeous, slightly sheer couture gown designed by the iconic fashion house of Schiaparelli, which was adorned with crystal embellishments and showcased her curvy figure.
She complemented her ensemble with pristine silver jewels including dangling earrings, rings, and an extravagant diamond necklace. With the beautiful dress as her look’s main focal point, Lopez opted for neutral makeup.
Lopez used a combination of brown, pink, and caramel tones, and cheekbone bronzer with glossy lips. Complementing the look, she fashioned her hair into a top knot bun, leaving only a few wisps of hair loose to frame her face. The “Can’t Get Enough” artist’s appearance garnered a lot of attention from the public.
“The hair and makeup is terrible! She looks tired,” wrote an unimpressed social media user. In response to this comment, another person said, “It looks like she tossed up a messy bun after a day at the beach.”
Similarly, someone on Facebook commented, “Love the dress but this looks like my everyday mom bun 😂.” Continuing to criticize her hair and makeup, another user expressed, “That highlighter on the inner eyes is only highlighting the wrinkles under her eyes! First time I’ve ever noticed them. She has great makeup artists so????”
“Lookin like Jenny did her own hair and makeup […] too old for see thru,” reprimanded a social media user. “What’s going on with the hair? Love everything else,” pondered another person.
Commenting on her dress, someone else chastised, “She’s beautiful but dress decent it’s getting old and so is she, wonder what her kids will think when [they are] older.” Referring to Lopez’s overall look, another simply noted, “No class,” while someone else stated, “That neck don’t lie.”
Although many criticized Lopez’s appearance, what may not be appreciated is the amount of work that went into its conception. According to fashion designer Mariel Haenn, the star’s gown “took over 800 hours of work” to make.
Designed by using four enlarged butterfly wings to make up the dress’ entire surface area, in addition to using “2,500,000 silver foil bugle beads,” the inspiration behind the dress was the butterfly.
“Much more than flowers, the butterfly symbolizes metamorphosis. Transformation. Something that was asleep that wakes up beautiful, powerful, and new. The butterfly is a perfect articulation of a sleeping beauty,” Haenn explained.
As for Lopez’s hair and makeup, a fashion outlet profiling the Met Gala looks reported that the idea was to prove that less is more, especially when one is already dazzling in a Schiaparelli haute couture piece.
Of her hair, celebrity hairstylist Lorenzo Martin divulged, “Just like a butterfly, we wanted the hair to be angelic, fresh, and beautiful.” To achieve the desired hair, Martin used the Shark FlexStyle Sparkle Air Styling & Drying System in Black Diamond, the Tangle Teezer Ultimate Styler, and Tresemme Extra Hold Hair Spray.
In addition to her stunning Tiffany and Co. jewelry, Lopez accessorized her look with beautiful nails done by Tom Bachik. On how he brought her nails to life, Bachik disclosed, “Like a butterfly transforming in a shimmery chrysalis, I encased Jen’s polished natural nail in a translucent pearl cocoon.
Of her attendance as a co-host at the Met, the butterfly star, who has been to the fashion extravaganza a series of ten times before, mentioned that she felt “honored.” “I was really honored to be asked to host it alongside Zendaya and Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth. Anna was gracious enough to ask me,” Lopez gushed.
Noticeably absent from Lopez’s side as she dominated the red carpet while taking pictures, was her dashing beau Ben Affleck, 51. As for why the famous actor did not attend the event with his wife this year, a media outlet confirmed that though he had planned on joining Jennifer Lopez, he could not due to a scheduling issue.
