A representative for the Harry Potter actor confirmed his death today, 14 October.
In a statement, his agent Belinda Wright confirmed that the actor who portrayed Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter franchise passed away on Friday.
Her statement expressed her sadness: “On Friday October 14, my friend and client Robbie Coltrane OBE passed away.
” Robbie was a unique talent, sharing the Guinness Book of Records award with Sir Michael Gambon in 1994, 1995, and 1996 for his portrayal of Fitz in Granada TV’s Cracker series.
“His most enduring role will likely be Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, a role that delighted children and adults alike for more than 20 years.
Robbie Coltrane’s career spanned over four decades and counting. He appeared in some of our most iconic films and television series, including the Harry Potter franchise, James Bond, and Trainspotting.
Coltrane first rose to prominence in the early 1980s with his breakout role as Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter franchise. He would go on to star in all eight of the Harry Potter films, cementing his status as one of Britain’s most beloved actors. In addition to his work on Harry Potter, Coltrane has also appeared in several James Bond films, most notably as Valentin Zukovsky in The World is Not Enough.
He also starred in a number of other notable films, including Trainspotting, The Fifth Element, and From Russia with Love. Coltrane has also had a prolific career on television, appearing in Cracker, Taggart, and Blackadder series.
He most recently starred in the critically acclaimed BBC series The Casual Vacancy. Undoubtedly, Robbie Coltrane was one of our time’s most successful and respected actors. With an impressive body of work that spans multiple genres, Coltrane continued to entertain audiences around the world.
