Two high school students from Indiana have been killed in a car crash on their way to prom.
As per tragic reports, Kalen Hart and her prom date, Lendon Byram, died in the collision on Saturday, May 1.
Kalen was a senior at Hamilton Heights High School, while her boyfriend Lendon attended Cathedral High School.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own … due to injuries sustained in a traffic accident yesterday,” the Hamilton Heights School Corporation wrote on Sunday. “This is an unimaginable loss to these families and our school community.”
According to Fox, the accident occurred at around 5:15 p.m. local time in Arcadia, roughly 35 miles north of Indianapolis. Kalen and Lendon were pronounced dead at the scene.
Ledon is said to have been the driver of the vehicle, while Kalen was in the passenger seat. Two further high-school-aged passengers were in the car, both of whom were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Grief is personal and everyone experiences and processes loss and trauma differently,” HHSC said.
Kalen’s mother, Jody Bartrom Conaway, shared a fundraiser on Facebook.
“My 18-year-old daughter, along with her boyfriend, were killed in an automobile accident on her way to prom,” she wrote. “No parent should ever have to bury their child.”
My heart goes out to these poor teenagers and their grieving families. Rest in peace, Kalen Hart and Lendon Bryam!
