Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom complained about Fox News primetime shows and their “ruthless” hosts who are dominating politics and crushing Democrats.
Newsom made the comments during an interview hosted by the Texas Tribune.
“These guys are ruthless on the other side. Ruthless on the other side,” Newsom said.
“That prime-time lineup by Fox, they’re ruthless,” he added. “They dominate the most important thing in American politics today, and that’s the narrative. Facts become secondary to narrative. They dominate with illusion and we are getting crushed. We are on the defense over and over again.”
He called on Democrats to go on the offensive instead of just responding to their opponents.
“Where are we? Where are we organizing, bottom up, a compelling alternative narrative? Where are we going on the offense every single day? They’re winning right now,” he added.
“They want to bring us back to the pre-1960s,” Newsom continued. “We have to meet this moment head on, and damn it, the Democratic Party has to assert itself much more aggressively than we have.”
Newsom also vehemently denied that he was interested in running for president in 2024 or 2028 despite spreading his political influence beyond California in what many see as laying the groundwork of a national campaign.
“No, not happening,” he said. “I cannot say it enough. I never trust politicians, so I get why you keep asking.”
Newsom has targeted Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his conservative policies in recent months in order to improve his national recognition. In their latest squabble, Newsom excoriated DeSantis as “disgrace” over his order to relocate migrants to the island of Martha’s Vineyard.
