A California man has died after a deadly fall while working in the San Francisco Bay Area. The victim, a landscape worker who has yet to be publicly identified, fell into a wood chipper while it was on.
The tragedy occurred Tuesday, when police say they were called at around 12:50 p.m., according to NBC Bay Area.
The man was found dead when authorities arrived on the scene.
The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office told the outlet that it could not release the victim’s name yet, until his family is notified.
Because this happened in a work environment, police say the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health will be investigating the death.
Helicopter footage from the scene shows tree limbs on the ground near where the man was landscaping.
Coworkers of the man who were at the scene declined to talk about him with reporters. However, residents in the area told a local TV station that they know the company and are familiar with their working in the area.
“We’re really sad,” resident Lisa Mitchell told KGO-TV. “We’re trying to imagine what the poor family and their fellow workers are feeling. And it’s just, it’s a lot. We just feel terrible.”
